Everyday there will be a Six Preliminary Practice session to start the day with. The melody of the prayers entitled “Necklace of the Fortunate” used during the retreat is the rhythm coming from Dagpo Shedrup Ling Monastery. Most of the prayers and melody were composed by His Holiness the Third Dalai Lama, Sonam Gyatso, along with other great lineage masters, based on their personal practice and experience. Therefore these melodic prayer tones possess intense blessings and tendency to plant virtuous seeds of liberation within the mental continuum as they pass the ears.
Listening is the “supreme form of wealth,” because it “cannot be taken away by thieves.” Although world riches can be stolen by thieves or taken away by enemies, listening—which results in the seven noble riches and the three qualities of learning, discipline, and kindness—cannot possibly be lost through theft.
Listening to dharma is line “an unchanging friend, even for someone fallen into misfortune.” Ordinary friends will treat you amiably when you are prosperous, but should you fall on hard times they will pretend not even to know you. Listening, however, is the supreme friend, who is most helpful in times of difficulty—such as when we are suffering, sick, or dying.
In the retreat we will be given a suitable condition and time to look into ourselves, think and feel about what we have already done, and what we will be doing. After teaching, we will have adequate theory to be compared to ourselves and reflect how we have been doing all this time. Then we can achieve spiritual condition where we can develop ourselves to be a better person.
Participants of the event come from different countries and cities. It is the perfect place to meet up in a spiritual gathering. Good friends and close family relatives will do practice together in a harmonious surrounding. The year end event is a warmhearted gathering for spiritual brothers and sisters in the dharma.
During the retreat participants will be given the time to meditate, based on the guidance given by the instructor, Venerable Dagpo Rinpoche. Within the meditation sessions, we will analyze and contemplate what we have heard during the teaching sessions. Meditation is part of the three main steps of practice, i.e. study, reflection, and meditation.
During the closing ceremony, there will be a precious ritual called the Bodhicitta Ceremony. The instructor of the retreat will give guidance on how to reflect on the points of the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, step by step, from the guru devotil up til the generation of the spirit of enlightenment.
The Nusantara “arak-arakan” is the procession to welcome the great Guru who will give the precious teachings. The parade is the fusion between several Nusantara tradition, which include the balinese gamelan, different kinds of offerings, men dressed in traditional balinese sarung, faithful devotees dressed in traditional javanese beskap, offerings ladies dressed in kebaya, lines of bhiksus, and Gending Sriwijaya.
